Webster was released by Hull Kingston Rovers in May |
Former Hull Kingston Rovers captain James Webster has not ruled out joining rivals Hull FC. Webster, who was released by The Robins last month after picking up a shoulder injury, told BBC Radio Humberside that he would be open to such a move. "I'd be interested in joining any club. Rugby's my job and I've got bills to pay and a family to support," he said. The 28-year-old added: "I've not heard anything from that club in particular so we'll just have to wait and see." The Australian left the Craven Park club in May after suffering what was believed to be season-ending shoulder ligament damage, making way for Michael Dobson to join the East Hull side's overseas quota. However, the scrum-half said the latest update on the injury is more positive than first feared. "I've been lucky enough to be doing my rehabilitation with Parramatta and do some private training in their facilities. "And with what the medical staff have told me, there's probably every chance I'll be playing again within the next four weeks." | WEBSTER'S ROBINS CAREER He captained Hull KR during their debut season in Super League He made 94 appearances after joining in 2004 His last game was against Leeds in April |
Webster quickly became a fans' favourite after joining the Robins in 2004 - the highlight of his time with the club coming as captain of the side that earned promotion to Super League in 2006. If he were to join the Black and Whites, it would aid their ongoing injury situation as the absence of the likes of Richard Horne and Tommy Lee has left them short of options at half-back. Webster is set to become a Kolpak player in the next few weeks due to his marriage to a British woman and four years' residency in Hull, meaning he would not affect FC's overseas quota. Meanwhile, the Sydney-born player says he's currently weighing-up the options available to him. "I've got a few options, nothing concrete as I've only been back in the country for three or four days so I'll sit down and work that out. "If nothing suitable comes up this year there's a good chance I might just sit out and not play this year."
