Faumuina could make his Hull debut against Wakefield |
Hull are close to signing back-row forward Sione Faumuina from the New Zealand Warriors on a short-term deal. The Challenge Cup winners were inspired by Warrington's capture of Australian star Andrew Johns for the final games of the Super League season.
"We're fighting fire with fire because Johns' second game will be against us," said chief executive David Plummer.
"It's very much a short-term shot in the arm for us to try and give us some extra momentum for the play-offs."
Faumina has two years left on his Warriors' contract but was given permission to join Hull after the end of the NRL season on Saturday.
The 24-year-old could make his Hull debut at Wakefield on 11 September providing he obtains a work permit.
Should Hull reach the Grand Final, Faumina would miss the first match of the Tri-Nations series between Australia and New Zealand.
