Huddersfield Giants' Kevin Brown faces six weeks out

Huddersfield Giants captain Kevin Brown has been ruled out for up to six weeks after scans revealed he has ruptured ligaments in his right knee.

The England stand-off, 26, picked up the injury in the opening stages of Sunday's defeat at Bradford Bulls.

It means Brown will miss the Giants' Challenge Cup quarter-final at Castleford on Sunday.

"The thought of missing the quarter-final is tough to take," Brown told the club's official website.

"I suppose the only consolation is that it could have been a lot worse.

"As soon as I picked up the injury I knew I'd done some damage. As well as feeling the pain I heard a 'pop', which is what happened when I injured my knee in the 2009 cup final.

"Fortunately it's nowhere near as bad."
