Giants right to keep faith - Wild
By Elizabeth Hudson

Stephen Wild
We knew that we were the only ones who could get ourselves us out of the rut

Huddersfield's Stephen Wild
Huddersfield forward Stephen Wild has praised the club for keeping faith in coach Jon Sharp despite the club's poor start to the Super League season.

The Giants lost their first seven games but have moved off the bottom of the table by winning their last three.

"A lot of people were calling for Jon to be sacked but thankfully the club didn't panic," Wild told BBC Sport.

"Getting rid of the coach would have caused more trouble so hopefully we can now help the club get their reward."

Huddersfield's seven consecutive defeats were all by narrow margins, and the Giants - now up to 11th place after wins over Wakefield, Warrington and Wigan - have the best points difference outside the top three.

Wild said the players were always confident they could turn their fortunes around.

"If we had been getting beaten heavily every week, the club might have done something," said Wild.

"But they saw that we weren't losing by a lot and it was just little things that needed to be sorted out.

GIANT STEPS FORWARD
Wigan won 41-16
Warrington won 26-18
Wakefield win 56-12

Salford lost 18-16
Catalans lost 23-22
Hull FC lost 16-12
Leeds lost 16-12
Hull KR lost 17-10
Bradford lost 18-14
St Helens lost 18-10
"Losing seven in a row put a lot of pressure on us, but we knew that we were the only ones who could get ourselves out of the rut and it brought us closer as a team.

"We knew we weren't going too far wrong, so we tweaked a few things and it has fallen into place. Now, after three good wins, hopefully we can go on a run and get into the top six."

Wild is in his second season at the Galpharm and, along with former Wigan players Kevin Brown, Martin Aspinwall and Stuart Jones, took extra pleasure from Sunday's comprehensive defeat of the Warriors.

"Beating Wigan was a big thing for us. It's always nice to get one over on your former club but all we were concentrating on was getting the points.

"I don't think many people expected us to run away with the game but the fact that it was a win over Wigan was a nice personal bonus, especially as I lost to them three times last season."

Next up for the Giants is the visit of Harlequins on Sunday, but Wild knows they cannot afford to be complacent.

"With Danny Orr and Scott Hill, Quins have two quality half-backs, and even though they have had a few tough losses and we have hit a bit of form, they could come to our place and turn it on," he said.

"Last season we won one and lost one against them, and they are tough to break down. Their pack is one of the quickest in Super League and on their day they can take anyone down."
