Crusaders would re-sign Raynor after prison - Retout

Raynor made seven appearances for Crusaders since signing in January

Crusaders chief executive Paul Retout says the club would re-sign Gareth Raynor once he completes a jail term for selling counterfeit ink.

The winger signed for Crusaders in January but had his contract cancelled after he was jailed for 15 months on 14 counts of fraud and counterfeiting.

The former Hull FC player had also made six appearances for Great Britain.

"Once he has served his prison term we would very much like to re-sign him," Retout said.

"Unfortunately, we have had no option but to terminate his contract. But we knew this would be a possibility when we signed him," he added.

In life we all make mistakes and I am sure Gareth rues the day when he got involved with his internet business

Hull Crown Court had heard on Monday that Raynor ran a web company called Genuine-Ink and sold low quality ink on Ebay passing it off as high-quality named brands.

But the Crusaders chief executive said the club would offer a second chance to the 32-year-old.

"In life we all make mistakes and I am sure Gareth rues the day when he got involved with his internet business," Retout continued.

"Since Gareth has been at the club, he has been the ultimate professional, as well as volunteering to undertake work in promoting rugby league and Crusaders in the community."
