Crusaders eyeing winning streak

Celtic Crusaders celebrate at Braford

Report: Celtic Crusaders' first win

Celtic Crusaders say that their first Super League victory is just the start for the Bridgend-based club.

"The boys are full of confidence," said winger Luke Dyer, whose two tries in the 30-24 win at Bradford Bulls saw them end a 12-match league losing run.

"We're learning how to throw the knock-out punch. We've got lots of home games coming up and want a few more wins."

Catalans Dragons, a success story of the league's franchise system, visit on Saturday, with Dyer confident of a win.

"They are beatable, hopefully we can take our confidence into that game at the Brewery Field," he told BBC Sport Wales.

Coach John Dixon added: "It's a massive challenge at home against the Catalans Dragons.

"But there's a buoyancy in our step that's not been there for a while now and we'll go in in a confident mood.

"We've got to make sure we push on in the coming fixtures, there are a lot of mountains to climb.

"[The Bradford win] was the first time we've kept a performance going for 80 minutes, that's the big difference at Super League level."

The Crusaders have only been in existence since 2005 but made rapid strides to the Super League.

They won promotion from National Two in their second season before they were one of 14 sides to be granted a three-year Super League licence last July.

The step up has proved a real challenge, but they feel that their first victory has them back on track.

"The wonderful thing about the Crusaders is that our sustainability is based on our junior development," said Dixon.

"Our future relies on that and the structure is in place."

Dyer said that the Crusaders' upturn in form was due reward for their loyal supporters.

"[The Bradford win] is dedicated to the away fans," Dyer told BBC Sport Wales.

"About 50 of them follow us every week, we hope that next week we can get a good crowd into the Brewery Field."
