Catalans suffer Ryles injury blow

Jason Ryles
Former St George Illawarra man Ryles suffered an unhappy Catalans debut

Catalans Dragons prop Jason Ryles could be ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

The 30-year-old was initially expected to miss three weeks, but that prognosis has changed with nerve damage likely to be confirmed.

"He has got to go back and have some more scans in a couple of weeks," said coach John Walters.

"It looks like nerve damage so he's out indefinitely. The worst-case scenario could be six months."

The former Australia international sustained his injury as the Dragons slumped to a 30-8 home defeat against Huddersfield in their Super League opener on Saturday.

Last year's play-off semi-finalists have already lost second rower Sebastien Raguin for at least six months after he underwent reconstructive surgery on knee ligament damage he sustained in a pre-season friendly.
