Matterson has been in charge of Castleford since 2005
Castleford Tigers head coach Terry Matterson has signed a new two-year contract with the Super League club.
Matterson, 42, joined the club from Canberra Raiders in November 2005 and his current deal was set to expire at the end of the season.
"It's good for the club to have some stability as we move into the next round of franchises," Matterson told BBC Radio Leeds.
"It was an easy decision and I'm really pleased to have signed a new deal."
The Tigers were relegated in his first season but the Australian guided them straight back.
Matterson explained: "Things have been sorted out for a little while now. It was all about crossing a few t's and dotting a few i's.
"I'm excited by what we can do and where the club can go. We want to be more consistent and a top-eight team."
Although the Tigers collected the wooden spoon in 2008, Castleford won five of their opening seven matches in the current campaign to briefly climb into third place in Super League.
However, they have lost their last four league games to slump to 10th.
Tigers chief executive Richard Wright stated: "We are really pleased to have Terry with us for a further two years and are confident that the club will continue to grow and develop into one of the top clubs in Super League.
"Injuries to key players are hurting us at the moment but all at the club believe we will finish in the top eight this season and that has been our target all along.
"We are all proud of having two players in the England squad and I think there are more to come in the next few years.
"Terry has been instrumental in their development and has shown a willingness to give opportunities to our young players, which is the key to our future.
"We are pleased that Terry has now signed this new contract and we can focus on the top eight and recruitment for next year."
