Robinson set for loan deal

Wigan's teenage scrum half Luke Robinson could be set to join Super league strugglers Castleford on loan - unless the Warriors' injury crisis worsens.

But Wigan chairman Maurice Lindsay insists Robinson remains central to Wigan's long-term plans.

The 19-year-old burst onto the scene last year with a handful of eye-catching performances for the Warriors, which included scoring a hat-trick against St Helens.

Some were pushing him to play for Great Britain in the Ashes series last autumn.

But his form has dipped this season, which has seen him being dropped back into the senior Academy side.

"We had approaches from Salford and Castleford about possible loan deals," said Lindsay. "We passed those on to Luke, who chose Castleford.

"But we need to get through the Widnes game on Friday first. If we get any injuries we might have to call on the reserves. If everything is fine, we will definitely lend him to Castleford."

The duration of the loan has not yet been agreed, and Lindsay added: "He definitely figures in our long-term plans."
