Newton happy to stay at Bradford
Terry Newton
Newton has been told he is key to Bradford's future
Great Britain hooker Terry Newton pledged his future to Bradford after rejecting a return to Wigan.

Warriors coach Brian Noble made a bid to lure the 29-year-old back to the JJB Stadium, offering former St Helens hooker Mickey Higham in exchange.

Newton said: "I've got two years left on my contract and, as long as Bradford want me, I'll never say 'I want out'.

"So, unless [coach] Steve McNamara changes his mind or [chairman] Peter Hood does, I'm a Bradford Bull."

Higham was used to help facilitate Newton's move to Odsal just over two years ago.

Bradford paid St Helens a transfer fee of 70,000 for the former Leigh hooker and immediately exchanged him with Wigan for Newton.

"I've spoken with Steve McNamara about it, told him my thoughts and we both agreed it's right for me here," Newton added.

"Macca's reassured me he wants me at the club and now I'm just looking forward to getting the season started."

Newton could face his home town team on Sunday when Bradford take on Wigan in the Paul Deacon testimonial match at Odsal.
