Harris takes over from Jamie Peacock as Bradford captain |
Former Leeds captain Iestyn Harris has been named as successor to Jamie Peacock as captain of Super League champions Bradford Bulls. Harris, 29, will begin his reign in the World Club Challenge with Wests Tigers in Huddersfield on 3 February.
"I am absolutely delighted," he said. "Captaincy is something I have always enjoyed doing. It's a great honour and I'm looking forward to the challenge.
"I hope I can bring something new for the side and bring more success."
Harris led the Rhinos to victory in the 1999 Challenge Cup final and captained Wales in the 2000 World Cup.
He takes over from Peacock, who is now with Leeds, while prop Stuart Fielden succeeds Robbie Paul, now at Huddersfield, as club captain.
A third Great Britain international, scrum-half Paul Deacon, becomes Bradford's vice-captain.
Bulls coach Brian Noble said: "The three people I have chosen for the roles are all natural leaders and can take the club forward.
"Iestyn proved last year, during the difficult first part of the season, that he had leadership qualities - and he will show them this year.
"Iestyn is the captain. But we have several players within the squad who can all lead by example, and I am expecting them to do just that."
