Kris Welham has now scored seven tries in six games against Crusaders

Hull KR winger Kris Welham maintained his superb try-scoring record against Crusaders as Justin Morgan's men ran out comfortable winners at Craven Park.

A Willie Mason-inspired Rovers proved too strong as Welham, who had scored in his previous five games against Crusaders, led the way with a brace.

Ben Galea, Scott Murrell, Liam Watts, Jake Webster and Blake Green got the Robins' five other tries.

But it was new man Mason's day as he made a big contribution on his debut.

Mason only arrived in England on Monday after a six-month wait owing to passport and visa delays.

But he was thrown straight in at the deep end, starting the game and playing 54 of the 80 minutes in two spells as Rovers arrested a run of three straight defeats.

Crusaders, already all but out of it at the break when they trailed 24-6, scored four tries through Stuart Reardon (2), Jarrod Sammut and Peter Lupton.

But they were always liable to play second fiddle to Mason, who quickly showed that being bound up in red tape has taken away none of his power.

The big Aussie was named man of the match by the sponsors after a slick showing, which saw him run and tackle with purpose, offload at will, and have a hand in two of their seven tries.

Mason's offload laid the platform for his side's opening score on six minutes when he combined with Shaun Briscoe and Green to set up captain Galea's fourth try of the season.

Crusaders, who remain in minus points as a result of their pre-season financial troubles, had shipped eight tries on Humberside when they lost to Hull last weekend.

And they looked to be in a similarly generous mood here, none more so than when their defenders were foxed by Green's kick, allowing Craig Hall to put Murrell in for a second try.

Mason then side-stepped his way through the visiting defence on 17 minutes before handing a pass inside to Watts who did the rest under the posts.

Despite saying in the build-up that he would last the full 80 minutes, Mason was allowed a breather after 23 minutes, which took some energy out of the home attack. And, within minutes, Crusaders were on the board thanks to Reardon after Hall fumbled Michael Witt's kick.

But Rovers remained the more dangerous of the two sides, underlining their dominance with a fourth try a minute before the break, when Hall took a pass from Welham before putting his centre back in and over.

Mason's return to the action with nine second-half minutes gone prompted another two home tries.

Clint Newton's delayed pass allowed Webster to end any doubt about the final outcome before Green shimmied his way over from close range for the try his display deserved.

Three tries in six minutes for Iestyn Harris's side put a bit of gloss on the scoreline, but it was still a fourth straight defeat for the Welsh side. And Rovers had the final word when Welham broke away for his second.

New Hull KR signing Willie Mason:

"Everything worked out well. It couldn't have gone better in my dreams. I was glad to play all right after flying halfway around the world.

"Having not played in five months it was a bit daunting. I was thinking last night, 'Imagine if I blow out in five or 10 minutes', so it was good we got a good start.

"We were electrifying in attack. If we play like that for 80 minutes we can stick it with anyone."

Crusaders coach Iestyn Harris:

"We knew Hull KR would come out firing with the Willie Mason factor.

"The crowd were up for a good start and we gave them it with a couple of errors that let them into our area.

"I think we made it easy for Mason. We've probably given him more game time than he deserved. He's a big bloke and he's going to be tough to stop when they get on top."
