Catalans (0) 12 Tries: Vaccari, Sa Goals: Gigot 2
Huddersfield (10) 26 Tries: Wild, D Hodgson, Lunt, Cudjoe, Robinson Goals: B Hodgson 3 Huddersfield soared above Hull into fifth place in the final Super League table as they rounded off their campaign with a 26-12 win in Perpignan. First-half tries from Stephen Wild and David Hodgson earned a 10-0 cushion for the Giants at the break. And victory was wrapped up inside the five minutes of the second half with tries from Shaun Lunt and Brett Cudjoe. Setaimata Sa and Frederic Vaccari pulled two back, but only either side of Giants' fifth try for Luke Robinson. Huddersfield now start their play-off campaign next Saturday afternoon (1545 BST) with a home tie against either Brian Noble's Crusaders. The Giants started the brighter, opening the scoring on the half hour after a fine pass from Robinson put Wild in a gap and he burst clear, rounding full-back Clint Greenshields to make Brett Hodgson's conversion a formality. The Giants extended their lead two minutes before half-time when Catalans spilled possession, Kevin Brown managed to put his boot to the ball, hack it into the in-goal area and David Hodgson won then race to touch down in the left corner. Brett Hodgson failed with his conversion attempt but the visitors further extended their lead early in the second half with converted tries by Lunt and Cudjoe, both converted. Catalans bounced back with a try when, following a penalty, a Tony Gigot kick towards the right hand post protector just evaded a Giants defender and Sa was on hand to touch down next to the post. Gigot converted but Huddersfield put the game to bed with an outstanding solo effort from Luke Robinson who caught Andrew Bentley napping and went over to the left of the posts. Hodgson failed with his effort at goal but, with a 20-point lead, the Catalans' second try from Vaccari, after another superb kick by Gigot, was a a mere consolation.
