Huddersfield ran in 10 tries against Wakefield at Belle Vue as the Giants climbed to third in Super League.

Combining stout defence with some dazzling attacking play, the Giants ran in 26 points in each half to make light of captain Brett Hodgson's absence.

David Fa'alogo crossed the line to give the Giants an early lead and from then on it was one-way traffic.

Scott Grix scored twice against his former club and Leroy Cudjoe kicked six goals as the Giants ran wild.

After Fa'alogo forced over, Paul Whatuira and Martin Aspinwall also crossed the line to put the visitors 18-0 up inside 12 minutes.

An injury to stand-off Ben Jeffries did not help the Wildcats' cause and they were to concede two more tries in the first half, with Cudjoe finishing off some good work from Whatuira and Grix touching down in the corner.

There was more to follow in the second period, as Lee Gilmour grabbed his first try for the Giants before Whatuira again acted as the provider, this time for David Hodgson.

Grix grabbed his second try courtesy of a break by Kevin Brown before Larne Patrick charged over and there was still time for Shaun Lunt to grab a deserved score by nipping in from dummy half.

Wakefield coach John Kerr said:
"After the first 30 seconds you could sense something was not right. Our energy levels looked down.

"It came out of the blue. It was very disappointing, very inept. Perhaps the players believed their own publicity a little too much.

"Huddersfield were very slick, very focused and very intense - everything we didn't do they did, and they did it very well."

Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown said:
"He's going well is Fats [Paul Whatuira]. I think we're utilising him much better this year than we were last year.

"The fact that he's learned to deal with his well-documented problems is obviously helping his game as well.

"For us to be a successful team, Paul Whatuira playing well is important to us and we're really happy with how he's playing."
