| St Helens pipped defending champions Leeds to the top of the table at the end of the regular season, but the slate was wiped clean for the start of the play-offs. Saints hammered Leeds on 19 September to go straight through to the Grand Final, but the Rhinos will have to pick themselves up when they take on Wigan in the final eliminator on Friday. The Warriors beat Bradford to successfully negotiate the first hurdle, and followed it up with a comprehensive defeat of Catalans Dragons in the south of France. The Dragons had been many experts' dark horses after crushing Warrington 46-8 in their first ever Super League play-off game, but Wigan put an end to their hopes for this season.
