Former Wigan stand-off Kevin Brown showed his old side what they have let go with two tries as Huddersfield edged a 24-22 win at the Galpharm Stadium. Tries by debutant Shane Elford, Steve Snitch and Brown put the Giants 18-10 up at at the break with Mark Calderwood and Gareth Hock replying for Wigan.
Brown got his second after the break before Hock, Harrison Hansen and Michael Withers closed the gap.
Ryan Hudson played his first game in two years after a drugs ban.
The Giants new-boy came off the bench and had solid spells in both halves after completing a two-year suspension for testing positive for the banned steroid stanozolol.
Coach Jon Sharp was very pleased with the first run-out of Huddersfield's pre-season, particularly Hudson's contribution.
"Ryan looked quite impressive," he said. "He was full of emotion, not tears-wise, but I thought he played with plenty of effort and plenty of vigour.
"He was pumped up and fired up and ready to get out there and get a bit of frustration out of the way.
"Now he just needs to practice a bit of execution and not curb his enthusiasm but channel it in the right areas.
"Overall, I thought emotionally and defensively he was very good and he did the things he did for Castleford, like giving your team a bit of enthusiasm and rolling his sleeves up and getting stuck in.
"His biggest challenge will be next week, I think, when it won't be his first game anymore and it's back to the harsh realities of rugby league, which I know he's been desperate for for two years now."
