Grose has played 60 games in a row for Warrington |
Brent Grose will not succeed in his attempt to play in every Warrington match for a second season in a row. He will miss Friday's Super League trip to Leeds after failing to shake off the knee injury he picked up in his side's win over Harlequins a fortnight ago.
The injury brings to an end a run of 60 consecutive appearances for the Wolves going back to September 2004.
His absence will pave the way for ex-Hull winger Richie Barnett to make his first start for two months.
Barnett has been on the bench for the last six matches.
Warrington are also without club captain Paul Rauhihi through suspension, while Leeds have lost veteran back rower Willie Poching.
The former Wakefield skipper decided to retire from the game after being ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The 32-year-old had agreed a new 12-month contract at
the start of the month but will now take up a role with the Rhinos backroom staff.
Stand-off Danny McGuire, who has missed Leeds' last four games with a shin injury, has been named in Smith's initial 20-man squad but a decision will not be made on his fitness until later in the week.
