Leon Pryce is keen to make his mark at stand-off |
Leon Pryce is a long way short of being the finished article at stand-off, says St Helens coach Daniel Anderson. The 24-year-old's desire to be taken seriously as a half-back was behind his move to Knowsley Road from home-town club Bradford in the off-season.
But despite some promising early signs, Anderson is not getting carried away with his impact - warning that Pryce is still a work in progress.
"Leon has got a long way to go in his development as a stand-off," he said.
"His biggest asset is his ability to test the defensive line but there are other aspects of his game that need to improve."
Pryce is already developing a potentially devastating partnership with scrum-half Sean Long, which culminated in a man-of-the-match performance against Leeds last week.
He only turns 25 in October, a week before Great Britain fly to Australia and New Zealand for the Tri-Nations series.
But his club coach believes a long, hard seven months lie ahead of him before he can be considered first choice at number six for the Lions.
"I'm not saying he can't be, but he's got a lot to do yet," said Anderson.
