The Dragons found out how hard life is without Stacey Jones as they slumped to defeat at Salford after losing the Kiwi to a hand injury early in the game.

Stuart Littler bagged Salford's opening try on 19 minutes and added a second from Andrew Dunemann's pass early in the second half.

Andrew Brocklehurst's late third try made the scoreline a bit more comfortable for the home side.

Bruno Verges nearly scored late on but the Reds held on for a clean sheet.

Salford coach Karl Harrison:

"Defensively we were pretty good. To 'nil' anybody at this level is a great achievement.

"With the ball we were a bit rusty. I think the score flattered Catalans. We could have had three or four tries in the first half.

"But they didn't go away. We could have blown them away - so credit to them for sticking in there."

Dragons assistant coach Paul Donkin:

"It is pretty disappointing. We have come full circle from last week.

"We were upbeat and excited - but now we are down in the dumps.

"We will go back and assess it and come back better."
