 | MATCH SUMMARY Leeds (14) 20 Tries: Sinfield, Donald, Smith, McGuire Goals: Sinfield (2) Huddersfield (6) 12 Tries: Torrens, penalty try Goals: Thorman (2) | Leeds' new-look side made an encouraging start to the new season but were made to fight for the points as they beat Huddersfield. Robbie Paul was prominent early on for the Giants, who started well, but handling errors soon proved costly. Kevin Sinfield and Scott Donald scored for Leeds before Albert Torrens marked his Huddersfield debut with a try. Danny McGuire was the only player to touch down after the break, although the Giants had a penalty try. Leeds coach Tony Smith: "I thought we were going to come up with a lot more tries, but Huddersfield kept coming up with the right tackles, so full credit to them. "We put down a few chances but we ticked box number one and will look at working towards box number two next. "We will get better and we will have to." Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp: "Offensively we put a lot of pressure on ourselves, simply by struggling to
complete our sets. "Our completion rate ended up at 40% and you can't come up with that type of stat at Headingley. "We came here thinking we could win. We did the next best thing, which is to perform well as a group." Leeds: Mathers, Donald, Walker, Senior, Smith, McGuire, Burrow, Bailey, Diskin, Peacock, Lauitiiti, Ellis, Sinfield.
