Ian Millward had a winning start to his reign as Wigan boss as Warriors swept past struggling Salford at the Willows.

Two tries from Brett Dallas and 14 points for Danny Tickle helped condemn the Reds to a fifth-straight defeat.

And the win put Wigan, who took some time to get going, back up to sixth in the engage Super League table.

Hosts Salford twice went ahead in the first half with a brace of tries from Andy Coley, but Warriors took control with two quick tries before the break.

Aussie winger Dallas scampered over for his 10th try of the season after some good work from compatriot Dennis Moran.

And the scrum half was again the provider when his neat grubber kick was collected by Kevin Brown, who put his side in front for the first time.

Great Britain full-back Kris Radlinski extended the lead further, scrambling over in the corner two minutes after the break.

The Reds could have made a game of it had Robinson managed to collect a deflected pass from sub John Clough with the line at his mercy.

But the game was finished off when Dallas burst on to a superb ball from Moran and raced over from the halfway line for the best score of the match.

Millward thanked his players and former acting coach Denis Betts for providing a winning start to his spell in charge.

"It is a fantastic start for my career at Wigan but I'm more happy for the players and for Denis," he said.

"Some things we did were good, but at other times we weren't as clinical as we could have been.

"It's a big job, a big club and they expect success so we must put building blocks in place for the future."

Salford coach Karl Harrison bemoaned lenient refereeing after the loss.

"Mark has been hit with a blatant whack to his head," he said of an incident which saw Danny Sculthorpe put on report for catching Mark Shipway with an elbow.

"In my opinion, Sculthorpe should have been off the field and it's no good to us he now gets suspended.

"I thought we had some tough calls against us and I'm not happy with the display of referee Richard Silverwood."
