Hull 20-6 Salford
Hull (12) 20
Tries: Briscoe, Yeaman, Cooke
Goals: Cooke 2, Brough 2
Salford (6) 6
Tries: Beverley
Goals: Charles
Hull withstood Salford's early pressure to retain their grip on third place in the engage Super League table.

Cliff Beverley opened the scoring for the in-form Reds, touching down after just six minutes and Chris Charles slotting the converison for a 6-0 lead.

But Shaun Briscoe scored the first of Hull's three tries after 30 minutes.

Kirk Yeaman dived over just before the break to hand the home side the lead and Paul Cooke, who also kicked four points, added a third after half-time.

Hull coach John Kear was pleased with his side's return to form after a series of poor performances.

"We have shown a lot of character and that's what we've needed," said Kear.

"Our bench, people like Garreth Carvell and Jamie Thackray gave us some massive go forward when they came on, and Paul King has chimed in as well.

"When Michael Eagar came off injured we had to work extra hard for each other.

"Stephen Kearney and Shayne McMenemy have had to give more than I wanted but it's a nice tee-up for the Bradford game next week."

We have some serious questions to ask ourselves
Salford coach Karl Harrison
Salford coach Karl Harrison was disappointed with his "naive" side.

"The difference between this Salford team and the ones of the past is that I now have a dressing room of players who are disappointed not to have won," he said.

"We have some serious questions to ask ourselves as we have a big game next week against London in the cup.

"We have to learn to make better use of possession. I thought we could have got more points in the first 20 minutes but that's the way it goes."
