Hull recorded their second win of the Super League season with an impressive performance against gutsy Warrington. The home side went into a 12-0 lead thanks to tries from Gareth Raynor and Shaun Briscoe.
Warrington hit back when Lee Briers went over, Briers then setting up a try for winger Henry Fa'afili.
Hull made sure of the win when Raynor grabbed his second, with late tries from Peter Lupton and Jamie Thackray sealing an important victory.
Warrington were looking to build on their win against Leigh in round two but were largely outclassed by the hosts.
Hull coach John Kear said his side did brilliantly to stem the tide of pressure at the KC Stadium.
"I felt my side showed a lot of patience and character," he said.
"We made an excellent start but then they came back at us and at that point our character shone through.
"Raynor's try just before half-time was a key one for us. In the second period our defence was awesome and we finished off with two well worked tries."
Coach Paul Cullen was disappointed with the defeat but happy with his side's performance.
"I am far from disheartened, in fact I'm encouraged because I believe we have closed the gap," he said.
"We can take a lot of positives from this game. Hull are a top quality side but I felt defensively we were solid
"It was only a couple of one-on-one misses that cost us. We did show character in coming back but the try just before half-time was crucial."
