Widnes defeated Bradford with an inspired display at the Halton Stadium. Vikings debutant Owen Craigie touched down early on before Leon Pryce hit back with a length of the field score.
The Vikings rallied with tries from Aaron Moule and Matt Whitaker before Andy Smith and Iestyn Harris levelled the scores at 16-16 after the break.
Tries from Jon Whittle and Craigie restored Widnes' lead before Karl Pryce hit back and Shane Millard sealed things for the Vikings.
Bradford were stunned by Wakefield on the opening day of the new Super League season and were outplayed by Widnes.
Australia's Craigie, who also landed a drop-goal in a stunning man-of-the match display, made a dream start to his Widnes career.
Stuart Reardon lost the ball after a big hit by Shane Millard and Craigie went over from the ensuing scrum.
On 17 minutes, Leon Pryce ran 70 metres to score and Paul Deacon landed the goal.
The Vikings then showed their mettle with two tries in three minutes, Moule scoring first and Whitaker taking Gary Connolly's inside pass to make it 14-6.
Steve Rowlands increased the lead with a penalty before the Bulls brought on Karl Pratt for Robbie Paul on 30 minutes.
Shortly after the break Widnes were reduced to 12 men when winger Andrew Emilio was sin-binned and Bradford took full advantage, Smith going over in the corner and Harris punching through from close range.
Deacon landed the goal to level the scores at 16-16 but Whittle chased down Craigie's kick to score soon after and Rowlands added the two points.
Following Craigie's second try, a drop goal and a 78th-minute try from Millard put things beyond doubt.
