Hull kept up the pressure at the top of the Super League with a comfortable win over play-off rivals Huddersfield.

The home side ran in seven tries to go five points behind league leaders Leeds Rhinos in joint second place.

Huddersfield took an early lead when Stuart Donlan capitalised on a Colin Best error to send Paul White over.

But Gareth Raynor then powered past three tacklers to cross the line and Paul Cooke's conversion gave Hull a lead which they never relinquished.

Hull, who were playing their third game in nine days, established a commanding 18-4 half-time lead with further scores from Michael Eagar and Peter Lupton.

Raynor caused the Giants constant problems while props Paul King and Ewan Dowes were a threat in the middle.

I thought our application was good but sometimes we lost shape
Hull coach Shaun McRae

It was Dowse who increased Hull's lead in the second half - and his score was followed by tries from Richard Horne, Richard Whiting and Shaun Briscoe.

Huddersfield's only reply came from a Jim Gannon try and two White penalties.

It was an excellent performance by the home side - but it came at a cost in the second half when centre Eagar came off with a broken arm.

Eagar has re-broken the arm he cracked in the opening Super League game of the season at St Helens.

"I thought our application was good but sometimes we lost shape and had poor execution and that was down to the fatigue factor," said Hull coach Shaun McRae.

That was a roller coaster ride for us
Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp

"We only conceded two tries. One was a good move by them and the other was a brain explosion from Colin Best.

"Gareth Raynor is in the best form I have known and Peter Lupton was showing what a smart rugby league player he is."

Giants coach Jon Sharp said: "That was a roller coaster ride for us.

"We keep letting teams get a jump on us early on and then we fight back only to let it slip later on.

"This has happened in the last three games."
