Wigan 12-12 Leeds
Leeds' Danny McGuire
Wigan (8) 12:
Tries: Carney
Goals: Farrell 4
Leeds (0) 12:
Tries: McGuire 2
Goals: Sinfield 2
Danny McGuire scored twice as Leeds drew with Wigan at the JJB Stadium.

The home side were 8-0 up at half-time after Brian Carney raced in at the corner after three minutes and Andy Farrell converted two kicks.

But McGuire touched down twice in the space of eight minutes - the first after good work from Matt Diskin and the second after a slick handling move.

Kevin Sinfield's second conversion edged the visitors in front but a third penalty by Farrell levelled matters.

Carney claimed the opening try when he got on the end of Stephen Wild's pass and produced a stunning turn of speed to sprint 60 metres, elude the grasp of Keith Senior and score in the corner.

Mark Calderwood produced Leeds' biggest threat of the first half but it was Carney who stopped him in his tracks after 50 metres.

Leeds had their best spell of the match just after the interval, and Wigan looked to have survived it until 51 minutes, when Diskin dummied his way past Sean O'Loughlin to set up McGuire.

Eight minutes later he rounded off a slick passing move, and Kevin Sinfield's conversion put Leeds ahead for the first time in the match.

Brett Dallas went close to claiming a third try for Wigan, but the home side needed Andy Farrell's penalty after a high tackle by Wayne McDonald to tie up the scores.

The point was enough to take Wigan above bitter rivals St Helens, and afterwards acting coach Denis Betts admitted to having mixed feelings about the outcome.

He tried his socks off from the kick-off... he was energetic and caused them heaps of problems
Tony Smith hails Danny McGuire

"I'm a little disappointed with the result but at the same time I was happy with the performance," he said.

"It's a draw but I think we can take more out of it. I thought they showed what a great side they are in broken-field play."

Leeds coach Tony Smith was full of praise for McGuire, who continued his record-breaking season with his 35th try.

"I thought Danny was great, as good as in a lot of games where he's scored four tries," said Smith.

"He tried his socks off from the kick-off. He was energetic and caused them heaps of problems."

"We are a bit disappointed not to get the win. It feels a little like a loss and the boys are a bit down at the moment but most teams would be pretty pleased with a point at Wigan."
