Huddersfield assistant coach Steve Deakin will move to France at the end of the year to join Super League hopefuls Union Treiziste Catalane. Deakin will be in charge of a largely full-time squad at UTC, who are expected to join Super League in 2005.
"It's a challenge I'm very much looking forward to," said Deakin, who has signed a one-year deal.
"It's a very exciting and attractive place to go and it's a great opportunity."
Deakin had spells with London, Keighley and Sheffield before joining Huddersfield as Tony Smith's assistant.
Meanwhile, the Giants have beaten London Broncos to the signature of Rochdale Hornets second-rower Paul Smith. The former Great Britain amateur international will join on a two-year contract at the start of Super League IX.
