Sunday's games

Huddersfield 36-22 St Helens

Huddersfield caused the biggest shock of the Super League season so far with a first victory in 25 years over champions St Helens.

The Giants recovered from conceding an opening minute try to put in a superb performance and notch up their first win of the season.

Saints took an early lead through winger Darren Albert's try to which Sean Long added the extras.

Huddersfield: 36

But the Giants recovered and centre Ben Cooper, Anthony Colella, Darren Turner and Paul March added further tries.

Sean Long helped set up Darren Smith and Stuart Jones for tries and Long himself added a goal and another try, converted by Paul Sculthorpe.

The Giants managed to hold off the Saints challenge and late scores by Hefin O'Hare and Brandon Costin sent the visitors to their first defeat of the season.

Warrington Wolves 14-27 Hull

Winger Steve Prescott helped Hull to an impressive victory over the Warrington Wolves at Wilderspool.

Prescott grabbed a vital second-half try and also landed five goals for a personal tally of 14 points as Hull recorded their third Super League success of the season.

The visitors were holding a six-point advantage midway through the second half when Jason Smith fired out a long pass and Prescott went over in the corner for a crucial try to give his side breathing space at 24-14.

The home side grabbed the opening try of the half after 16 minutes when hooker Jon Clarke went over but Hull stormed back with two tries in five minutes from Colin Best and Ritchie Barnett.

Graham Appo kept the Wolves in contention before Prescott struck, allowing the visitors to press home their advantage..

Widnes 18-26 Bradford

Bradford Bulls recovered from 8-0 down before overcoming the Widnes Vikings who are still waiting for their first win of the season.

Dan Potter and Shane Millard gave the Vikings an early advantage before Robbie Paul began the Bulls revival with a 35th minute try which was converted by Paul Deacon.

A Deacon penalty ensured the sides were level at the break and the Bulls started the second half strongly with two tries in the first 10 minutes.

Substitute Michael Withers took a pass from James Lowes to go over before Scott Naylor added to the Widnes misery with Deacon landing both conversions to open up a 20-8 lead.

Mike Forshaw had a try disallowed before Widnes grabbed a 66th-minute try through winger Chris Giles but Adam Hughes missed his fourth goal from four attempts.

Paul Anderson collected Deacon's pass to charge over and make it 26-12 and make the points safe.

Simon Finnigan cut the lead to eight points with the Vikings' fourth try, converted by Dean Lawford but that was as close as the home side could get.

Widnes: Spruce, Potter, Demetriou, Hughes, Giles, Frame, Lawford, Relf, Millard, O'Neill, Hay, McCurrie, Bird. Replacements: Mills, Finnigan, Farrell, Atcheson.

Saturday's game

Castleford 14-20 Wakefield

Wakefield completed an early season league and cup double over Castleford in a thrilling derby at The Jungle.

The home side opened the scoring after just two minutes when lively full-back Damian Gibson sent Michael Eagar over from short range.

Matt Seers, Brad Davis and Castleford's Francis Maloney then all had a stint in the sin-bin, before Wakefield got back into the game when Gareth Ellis to slipped in for a touchdown.

Seers was back in the action after his return, and, after having a try disallowed for a knock-on, h went over in the corner on the stroke of half-time.

After two Ian Knott penalties, Jeffries' well-weighted grubber sent in Davis to put Wakefield 10 points clear.

Mark Lennon ensured a tense finale when he jinked his way over for a Cas reply 14 minutes from time, but Wakefield held on for victory.

Castleford: Gibson, Pryce, Eagar, Mellor, Rogers, Orr, Maloney, Sykes, Bartrim, Lynch, Smith, Fritz, Hudson. Replacements: Johnson, Harland, Lennon, Jackson.

Friday's games

Wigan Warriors 30-34 London Broncos

London Broncos registered their first ever win over Wigan to make up for their loss to Warrington last week.

Centre Tony Martin contributed 14 points - five goals and a try - after Wigan had made a whirlwind start by racing into a 16-0 lead.

Danny Tickle, David Hodgson, Paul Johnson each touched down for Wigan, but the Broncos struck back with three quick tries before the break.

Loose forward Jim Dymock helped himself to a couple before Russell Bawden's terrific break left Wigan in total disarray and winger Andrew King raced in for their third touchdown inside 15 minutes.

Martin landed all three conversions to send the Broncos in at half-time with an 18-16 lead.

Chris Thorman dummied his way in for the Broncos, with Martin again adding the goal, after the break.

The Warriors finally found a way through the London defence again when Terry Newton sent in teenager Gareth Hock.

Scrum-half Denis Moran intercepted Sean O'Loughlin's pass to get Martin in for London's fifth try - and the Broncos made sure when Rob Jackson crashed over for their sixth try of the night.

Brian Carney's late touchdown, converted by Tickle, was little consolation for Wigan.

Halifax 14-20 Leeds

Leeds went top of the Super League table thanks to an unconvincing win over Halifax.

Tries from Chris Feather, Barrie McDermott and Chev Walker settled a dour contest at The Shay.

Leeds were the first side on the scoreboard with a Kevin Sinfield penalty, but it was the home side who made the early running.

Sinfield was heavily involved after the break, feeding McDermott, who broke three tackles to barge over.

Mark Calderwood and Sinfield both had the home side back-pedalling with quick breaks before Walker managed to crawl over in the corner.
