Bradford's Scott Naylor goes in for his try
Bradford 46-22 Halifax

Super League leaders Bradford Bulls bounced back fom last week's defeat to Leeds to outclass Halifax at Valley Parade.

Bradford dominated from the start, running in eight tries to trounce their West Yorkshire rivals.

Scott Naylor claimed the opening try, marking his 100th appearance for the Bulls after good play by Tevita Vaikona and Jamie Peacock.

Paul Deacon converted and then crossed for a try himself but this time he could not add the conversion and Bradford led 10-0.

Halifax had not registered an attack at that stage but Australian winger Colum Halpenny put them back in contention.

Scrum-half Gavin Clinch pounced on a Bradford handling error and Halpenny raced 80 metres to score.

Danny Tickle added the goal to make it 10-6 after 17 minutes but Bradford continued to dominate for long spells.

Full-back Michael Withers scored the first of his two tries and then centre Brandon Costin crossed only to be recalled for a forward pass.

Linking well

Two successive penalties against Bradford prop Brian McDermott, however, gave Halifax the chance to mount some rare pressure near the home line.

Full-back Jason Flowers took advantage, linking well to score.

Withers struck again though by brilliantly collecting Deacon's cross-kick to give Bradford a 22-10 interval lead.

With the strong wind behind them after the break Bradford continued to set the pace, repeatedly stretching the Halifax defence with some crisp, confident handling.

Skipper Robbie Paul scored after a build-up featuring Withers and the outstanding Vaikona.

Substitute Leon Pryce sent Deacon over for his second try. His fifth goal from six attempts made it 34-10 after 56 minutes.

Substitute Lee Radford scored with his first touch of the ball to register Bradford's seventh try before Halifax hit back suddenly.

Hooker Johnny Lawless grabbed two tries from close range within three minutes to reduce the defecit somewhat.

But Bradford had the last word, wrapping up the victory with a late try by Vaikona and Deacon added his seventh goal to complete a match tally of 22 points.
