Challenge Cup winners Wigan enjoyed a triumphant homecoming as they completely overran struggling Salford at the JJB Stadium on Friday.

The Warriors ran in six tries as they cruised to two Super League points in their first home game since their Cup final win over St Helens at Murrayfield.

Apart from a spell of possession during the first half, Salford, sorely missing the skipper Bobbie Goulding, posed little threat in another lacklustre display.

The Reds went into the game bottom of the table and it was not difficult to see why as Wigan raced into a 12-0 lead in the opening 11 minutes.

Lance Todd trophy winner Radlinski took the ball on the bounce and beat opposite number Damian Gibson with an outrageous dummy.

Skipper Farrell added both conversions but Wigan were made to wait for further points as Salford rallied.

Gibson looked lively as the Reds pressurised the home line in a sustained 15-minute spell.

Hooker Malcolm Alker went the closest when he almost touched down his own kick but Warriors youngster Stuart Jones managed to deny him.

Salford finished the first half on top but paid for their inability to capitalise on their possession immediately after the restart.

Farrell added his third two-pointer of the night but declined the option of another kick at goal eight minutes later after Lam won a penalty.

Wigan instead took a quick tap and were rewarded as David Hodgson crashed straight over.

The game was effectively over two minutes later when Julian O'Neill sped on to Lam's pass to sprint over for a fifth try.

Top try scorer Brett Dallas then got in on the act with a simple touchdown for his 13th score of the season after two Reds' defenders made a hash of a high kick by Lam.

Salford were by now well beaten and Wigan held on to keep their line intact with little alarm in the closing minutes.
