Don't get me wrong, it would be a pleasure to play under Ian Millward.

No-one steers a club to victory in Super League, the Challenge Cup and the World Club Championship without being a bit special.

But I would put Mike Gregory in charge of Lancashire for the Origin games against Yorkshire.

There has been a lot of speculation about his future following Salford's winless start to the season.

But over the Easter period his team have come up with two smashing victories which will have gone a long way to silencing the critics.

From a personal point of view, I hope that saves him from getting the chop.

People forget that Steve is a young bloke who has done very well for himself to get a first-team job at just 28.

There is pressure on any coach whatever their age. Lose a couple of games and they soon start talking about the sack.

But to begin speculating so early in the season cannot be right or good for the players.

Steve deserves a break from the doubters - and he should get it now.
