Playing the ball is the most unique feature of rugby league.
It is the skill that makes the game so different to any other team sport.
The play the ball is used to restart play after a tackle has been made.
It is very simple skill to learn, but it's surprising how many players can get it wrong.
So it is important to get the basics right every time after a tackle and roll the ball out to a team-mate to run at the opposition.
STEP ONE
After you have been tackled by your opponent, finish on your hands and knees.
This will help you to regain your balance quickly.
STEP TWO
Bend your body over the ball, with one knee on the ground for support.
Place the ball lengthways on the ground with your stronger hand alongside your supporting foot.
STEP THREE
Roll your foot on top of the ball back to the acting half-back behind you.
Don't linger too long - the defender marking you can get at the ball once you have placed it on the ground.
STEP FOUR
Once you have struck the ball, it is the job of the the acting half-back to pass the ball out to a nearby team-mate or take the ball themselves.
