Whitehaven head coach Dave Rotherham said his substitutes won them the game in the 18-32 victory at Blackpool. Losing 14-0 in Group 5 of the Northern Rail Cup, Whitehaven were forced to make several tactical changes.
Speaking to BBC Radio Cumbria, Rotherham said: "When we introduced the likes of Teare, Hill, Mattinson and Wright, it gave us a big lift.
"We just kept adding firepower to the game, creating space and scoring some good tries."
Elsewhere in Group 5, Workington Town overcame local rivals Barrow 32-24.
For Ged Stokes' side, it provided a satisfactory return to form after being crushed 44-18 last week at Whitehaven.
"The reaction and the attitude from the players was very good," he said. "The win was important to us."
