Lyon handed key Lions position
Great Britain have stepped up their bid to win this year's Tri-Nations by enhancing the way they monitor players in contention for Lions honours.

Great Britain assistant coach Dave Lyon will keep track of players by attending matches and training sessions.

He will also maintain regular contact with club coaches and be responsible for delivering key information for Great Britain squad selection meetings.

The 2006 Tri-Nations competition kicks off in Auckland in October.

"Regular monitoring of this type is an important element of the selection process," said Lyon, a former full-back for St Helens and Great Britain.

"I am looking forward to beginning this key element of preparation and working with both club coaching staff and the Great Britain coaching team in these areas."
