Huddersfield were eventually overpowered at Twickenham |
Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp said his side lost to the better team after seeing the Giants slump to a 42-12 Challenge Cup defeat to St Helens. "Saints probably had a bit more firepower than us," he said. "We came up against a champion team.
"I'm extremely proud of my players. We were good for about 50 minutes, but then St Helens started to take control.
"Their bench took its toll. We came here and played very well, but ultimately they wore us down."
Sharp's side took the lead after just six minutes, but St Helens took control after levelling the game on 21 minutes.
The Giants never stopped battling, and Robbie Paul claimed a consolation score with just 10 minutes left.
"We knew we had to be at our best but we weren't - we came up against a red-hot Saints team," said Paul.
"We weren't at the races today. We wanted to take control and we're usually strong in the second half.
"It does make your hungrier to go back there again. It's about building a foundation at the moment."
