Briscoe is reported to have fallen ill on Friday morning |
Hull have been dealt a huge blow ahead of Saturday's Challenge Cup final against Leeds with the loss of full-back Shaun Briscoe. The 22-year-old was rushed to hospital from the team's training camp in Cardiff on Friday with appendicitis and was due to undergo surgery immediately.
Leeds have a fully fit squad to chose from for the Millennium Stadium match.
Keith Senior, Danny McGuire and Willie Poching have all shaken off knocks and fit-again Danny Ward is also included.
Briscoe's place is set to go to either utility back Motu Tony, who has deputised four times for his team-mate this season, or centre/full-back Tom Saxton.
Meanwhile, Briscoe is expected to be ruled out for the season.
"It's a blow, but that's how the cookie crumbles," said Hull coach John Kear. "He went to hospital for a check-up on Friday morning and that's all we thought it would be.
"But they have said he's got appendicitis and he's being operated on. The lad's in tears but there's nothing we can do about it.
"It's probably going to put him out for the season."
Briscoe has been a revelation for Hull since his move from Wigan at the start of last season.
He scored a club Super League record 22 tries last season, when he was named in the Super League Dream Team and crowned Super League Young Player of the Year.
He has been similarly impressive this season, touching down 15 times so far this year.
