Horne handed Ashes role

Andy Farrell will captain Great Britain
Hull's Richard Horne will make his full Test debut for Great Britain against Australia on Sunday in the first match in the Ashes series.

Coach David Waite has handed the teenager, who was not included in the original 34-man squad, the crucial scrum-half role.

It's just sinking in - I'm very excited and I can't wait to get into it
Richard Horne

Horne will face a direct confrontation with Andrew Johns, widely viewed as the world's best player.

The 19-year-old will be the youngest player on the pitch at the McAlpine stadium and gets his chance because of the absence of Tony Smith and Sean Long

Horne made his Great Britain debut as a substitute in the 46-12 win over France 13 days ago.

He played most of the season for his club at centre but deputised superbly for the injured Smith in Hull's fine finish to the season.

Waite said: "Richard has got the skills that will be advantageous to us in the first Test."

The most notable absentee was Australian-born utility back Michael Withers, whose original selection in the squad caused controversy.

Great Britain team:

Radlinski (Wigan), Senior (Leeds), Connolly (Wigan), Johnson (Wigan), Pryce (Bradford), Sculthorpe (St Helens), Horne (Hull), O'Connor (Wigan), Sinfield (Leeds), McDermott (Leeds), Joynt (St Helens), Peacock (Bradford), Farrell (Wigan, capt).

Substitutes: Wellens (St Helens), Forshaw (Bradford), Anderson (Bradford), Fielden (Bradford).
