Huddersfield (22) 50 Tries: Cudjoe 2, Wardle 2, McGillvary 2, Horne, Brough, Grix Goals: Brough 8
Harlequins (6) 12 Tries: Melling, Clubb Goals: Gale 2 Huddersfield ensured fourth place in Super League XVI as they ran in nine tries to hammer hapless Harlequins. Fit-again Danny Brough scored one of the Giants' tries and kicked eight goals for a 20-point haul on his long-awaited recall after three months out. Leroy Cudjoe, Joe Wardle and Jermaine McGillvary all ran in two tries. Graeme Horne and Scott Grix were the other try scorers as the Giants booked a play-off semi-final probably against new title favourites Warrington. If Warrington win at Hull on Friday night to win the league leaders' shield, then they will host Huddersfield - who knocked them out of the play-offs a year ago and have twice beaten them this season - at the Halliwell Jones the following weekend. Brough's return following the ankle ligament injury he suffered in June was a big factor, but Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown also highlighted the performance of centre Cudjoe. On his 100th appearance just days after signing a new four-year contract with his hometown club, the academy product helped destroy Quins, scoring twice and setting up another two. Harlequins, whose 18th defeat in 21 games was sealed by a late Giants barrage, ran in two tries through winger Chris Melling and England centre Tony Clubb. POST-MATCH REACTION Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown: "Leroy Cudjoe was sensational. All he needs to do is believe in himself more. The more he believes in himself, the better a player he will be. "He has so many natural skills that a coach can't teach. People will talk about the tries he scored and the ones he set up. But he also saved tries as well. "He has a lot of tricks in his box. Look at how he held up Tony Clubb on the try-line in the second half. He's a big player and yet Leroy stopped him. "We didn't talk about where we wanted to finish at the start of the season. We just wanted to be a good and consistent side. But, if you'd have said to us that we'd suffer a lot of injuries but still finish fourth, I think we'd have taken it. Harlequins coach Rob Powell: "We did a lot of good things and threw some strong stuff at them in the first half. "But I'm disappointed at how we finished the game - 34-12 was a more fair reflection. We shouldn't have let them score three tries in the last five minutes. "It probably sums up our season. We've been let down by not doing the things that we needed to do in games. "What we need for next season is players with more experience and wisdom. It's been a relatively tough year for us results-wise, but I think there are positives for us to build on."
