Three of Bridge's four tries for Warrington came in the first half |
Chris Bridge scored four tries as Warrington closed to within a point of Super League leaders Wigan. Garreth Carvell and Bridge (2) put Wolves in charge before Luke Dorn scored Quins' opening try. Joel Monaghan then went over as Lee Briers, two more from Bridge and Richie Myler made it 48-6 before Dorn and Daniel Sarginson added to Quins' score. Paul Wood then crossed for Wolves' final try before Andy Ellis scored a late consolation for the hosts. Quins have now lost eight of their last 11 matches and their afternoon got off to a bad start as they allowed Warrington to take the lead inside the first two minutes as Carvell cantered under the posts. Myler then offloaded to Bridge, who touched down before adding a second as he shrugged off some weak tackling to cross over the line. But as Quins may have been looking back to their 82-6 thrashing in the reverse fixture in March, Gale went over after his own kick had deflected off a number of players. The hosts' resurgence was stalled by a long injury to Wolves' Matt King and Monaghan soon put the visitors in control after the restart by darting over after Bridge had been held just short. Monaghan then forced his way through the Quins defence to set up Briers before Bridge helped himself to his hat-trick. The centre then latched onto Monaghan's offload to secure his fourth and Myler further extended Warrington's lead. Dorn then broke free for his second try and Sarginson added a third for Quins after jinking inside and diving over the line. Wood scored an eighth for Wolves, crashing over 10 minutes from time before Ellis went over for Quins' fourth and final try. POST-MATCH REACTION Harlequins coach Rob Powell: "We did not come out with anything like the intent we needed and that concerned me. "We made mistakes and basic errors and that cost us. "This game is all about being relentless - sides like Warrington have that intensity and we have to try to match it. "We are able to compete in patches but not for an entire game and the truth is we have not been good enough." Warrington head coach Tony Smith: "I thought Chris looked dangerous every time he had the ball. "I like him when he plays in that role as it allows him to roam and he can do damage. "He looked really sharp, although he was absolutely shattered by the end of the game. "We had to mix things up a bit today and Chris was a shining example of that as he is willing to do whatever we ask him."
