Salford (0) 16 Tries: Broughton, Nero, Anderson Goals: Holdsworth 2
Danny Tickle produced 24 of Hull's points with two tries and eight goals
Hull gave new Salford coach Matt Parish plenty to think about as the Australian watched his new side comprehensively beaten 52-16 at the KC Stadium.
Danny Tickle and Tom Briscoe grabbed first-half braces before Jordan Turner made it 28-0 at the break.
Salford responded in the second half as Jodie Broughton answered Joe Westerman's score before Turner added his second try and Briscoe his third.
Vinnie Anderson and Chris Nero scored consolation tries for the Reds.
Westerman was outstanding in an impressive performance from the Black and Whites - playing in a special pink kit for charity on the night - and his clean break set up Danny Tickle's first.
Salford put the re-start out on the full and Hull were soon over the line again as Briscoe crossed in the corner. The third followed shortly after when Turner went over.
Mark Henry narrowly failed to gather a kick that could have put the Reds on the board and instead Westerman was instrumental again when his perfectly timed pass put Tickle in under the posts.
Cameron Phelps created a three-man overlap for Briscoe's second to give Hull a 28-0 lead at half-time.
Westerman grabbed a try for himself in the 49th minute after his huge kick was palmed back inside by Richard Whiting.
Broughton got around Whiting to finally put Salford on the board before Turner, once a Reds player, scored his second after good work down the right.
Briscoe's hat-trick try was the best of the bunch when he spotted an opening and raced the length of the field.
Washbrook went over from close range but Anderson and Nero's token scores gave Parish something to work with on an otherwise disappointing night.
Hull coach Richard Agar: "Over the last 15, 16 games our form has been up there with a lot of teams.
"We have to concentrate on playing our best football and the other things will take care of themselves. I thought our first half was a very good show.
"Salford were talking about where they would be after tonight and we responded to that. In difficult conditions, we did a professional job."
Salford's outgoing coach Phil Veivers: "I'm extremely disappointed, we didn't turn up in either half and made a lot of uncharacteristic errors that we haven't made for a few weeks.
"Maybe it's been a slow build-up towards a poor performance. Matt [Parish] spoke to them afterwards and he probably told them the same things as me.
"It's a massive dent in our aspirations. But we still have six games to go, although five of them are against the top five.
"We're only two points outside the play-offs, but we need results to go our way and for us to roll over some of the bigger sides. If we play like that, we won't."
