Carnegie Challenge Cup

Salford ran in 12 tries to cruise into the fifth round of the Challenge Cup.

Hunslet were undone by two tries each for Luke Adamson, Iafeta Paleaaesina, Jodie Broughton and Adam Clay.

Adam Neal, Lee Jewitt, Stefan Ratchford, a spectacular length of the field effort, and Chris Nero also got on the scoresheet as the Championship side were taken to the cleaners.

Eight Reds tries came after the break, scrum-half Daniel Holdsworth landing six conversions.

Ratchford also landed three, after Holdsworth had taken a breather and Matty Smith converted the last of their dozen tries.

Salford's win earns them a fifth round home tie against Hull KR in a fortnight's time.

Hunslet's only points came from a Danny Ratcliffe penalty on the stroke of half-time.

But, although player-coach Paul March was disappointed that his team failed to score a try, he was full of praise for the Hawks' refusal to throw in the towel.

Hunslet player-coach Paul March:

"I can't speak too highly of our lads. We were on the wrong end of a hiding but there is a massive gulf between Super League and the Championship. We kept on battling and never gave up.

"Salford scored some fantastic tries in the second half through good skill and that is how we should be aiming to play.

"We will take a lot of positives from the game despite the scoreline."

Acting Salford coach Phil Veivers:

"Hunslet had a real go in the first 15 minutes, but our message was not to panic and to stick to our system and we would probably wear them down, which is how it worked out.

"Jodie Broughton is a good finisher and scores plenty of tries for us, even though he keeps complaining that he doesn't get enough of the ball.

"I think that's 11 tries he's scored for us this year. He has some shortfalls in his game but he knows about that and is keen to improve."
