Kieran Hyde's penalty after the final hooter gave Wakefield a 26-24 victory over fellow strugglers Hull KR.

The home side led 8-6 after a tight first half, Ben Cockayne's try for the visitors being sandwiched in between tries for Kyle Amor and Chris Dean.

James Davey and Aaron Murphy stretched Wakefield's lead to 14 points, before Kris Welham, Cockayne and Blake Green gave the Robins a four-point lead.

Josh Griffin went over to level before Hyde won the match in dramatic fashion.

Wakefield, who failed to score in their home defeat by Wigan on Monday, went ahead in the seventh minute when Glenn Morrison set up Amor to push his way over.

Cockayne wasted Hull KR's first break but soon made up for the error, as he received a pass from Green to score next to the post following some quick footwork.

Midway through the half, Dean shrugged off Michael Dobson for Wakefield's second try for a narrow two-point lead at half-time.

Davey's try within three minutes of the restart was followed by Murphy's eye-catching score and the home side led 20-6 with 30 minutes remaining.

But from nowhere the visitiors mounted a fight-back with two tries in 10 minutes. Dobson set up Welham while Green sent Cockayne through for his second to reduce the margin to two points.

Rovers hit Wildcats on the beak as Scott Wheeldon's offload enabled Green to stumble over and the visitors led by four with nine minutes to go.

Tommy Lee chipped a kick for Griffin to grab and touch down to bring the scores level on 75 minutes.

Hyde missed a difficult chance to put his side ahead but made no mistake when presented with a far easier chance after the hooter.

Wakefield coach John Kear:
"That's the players, that's that group in there. You can kick them and put them down but they will get up again and have a dig back. That's what they did.

"That typifies the group of players we've got. I have enjoyed this season as much as I have for ages.

"It's absolutely first class working with these lads. They are an absolute joy to be around."

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan:

"I'm disappointed with two calls - they were wrong and I think it's cost us the game again.

"Glenn Morrison ripped off Richard Beaumont before their last try and then under the posts I don't know how he called it a penalty - their bloke with the ball ran back five metres ready to play it.

"They were two dubious calls. I know he doesn't go out there to make them on purpose but he's got to get them right."
