Kurt Haggerty joined Widnes Vikings from Blackpool in June 2010 |
Widnes forward Kurt Haggerty says they are working hard to improve their style of rugby under new coach Denis Betts. After amassing 19 tries in this term's first two Northern Rail Cup matches, last year's beaten finalists now take on Rochdale Hornets on Sunday. "We play good attacking rugby," Haggerty told BBC Radio Merseyside. "But it's still coming together. "Things aren't right yet and we need a little time. But we like to play entertaining rugby." After opening this season's Northern Rail Cup campaign with a thumping 62-18 win at London Skolars, Betts' men followed it up with Sunday's 44-28 victory at home to Toulouse. And 21-year-old Haggerty, who scored in the first day win in North London, believes that the Vikings are now seeing the benefits of all their pre-season hard work. "If you look back to our friendlies, we did some good stuff there against tough opposition. "Training sessions are getting better and we are improving. "And we're now getting the benefits from those games against teams in at our own level."
