London Broncos have parted company with coach John Monie after a disappointing first season at the helm.

The Broncos are second from bottom of the Super League, having won just one of their last 13 matches.

Chief executive Tony Rea will take over as caretaker coach for the remaining three games of the season and will appoint a replacement in time for the next campaign.

It is Rea's second spell as caretaker in little over 12 months and he will be seeking a fourth coach in two years.

Broncos have decided not to take up a second-year option on Monie's existing contract.

Club director Ian Burroughs said: "The board has made this decision because we believe it is in the best interests of the club.

"John has accepted our decision and fully understands that it is based on our longer-term vision."

John created a dynasty at Wigan but things just did not work out here

Monie was appointed last October having previously enjoyed a trophy laden spell in charge at Wigan, where he collected 14 major trophies.

But last Friday's 32-16 home defeat by Warrington - the Bronco's fourth in a row - prompted the end of Monie's reign.

"It was not a knee jerk reaction but Friday's game had a major influence," said Rae.

"John created a dynasty at Wigan but things just did not work out here.

"His style just did not fit in with a different set of players. The chemistry just was not right.

"John would have liked to have stayed to the end of the year but the board wanted to make the move now.

"There's been no bitterness, it's been incredibly amicable.

"John has been fantastic and he was very popular with everybody.

"But it's been a big positive in training - the players responded really well today."
