Lowes is a former Great Britain international |
New England coach Steve McNamara has named his former Bradford team-mate James Lowes as his assistant. The 40-year-old will combine the role with his position as number two to ex-England boss Tony Smith at Warrington. Lowes returns to the national coaching set-up having worked under Smith and alongside McNamara in 2007. "Steve and I go back a long way. We worked as assistants to Tony and I'm looking forward to working under him," said the former Great Britain hooker. Lowes joins Sydney Roosters coach Brian Smith, who will link up with the England coaching team for the Four Nations in New Zealand and Australia later this year as performance adviser, and newly-appointed physical performance analyst Jeremy Hickmans. McNamara added said: "Jimmy will help in all parts of the organisation. He's a fantastically loyal person who will bring a toughness and resilience to the group. "He's an experienced coach who has been developing over a long period of time and I'm delighted he's joined us." McNamara's first game in charge will be against France in Leigh on Saturday 12 June.
