Scott Yates scored a hat-trick of tries as Widnes swept past French side Lezignan with Thursday night's 44-24 Challenge Cup fourth round win. The match, postponed from Saturday because of travel disruption, began with Thomas Coyle's third-minute try. Scores from Adel Felous and Nicolas Munoz then put Lezignan 14-6 in front but they were soon reeled in. Anthony Thackeray, Matt Gardner, Chris Gerrard and Ben Kavanagh all added to Yates' haul in an eight-try Widnes win. After falling eight points adrift midway, the Vikings turned the match round when Thackeray's touchdown began a five-try blitz that moved them 32-14 clear at the break. | 606: DEBATE |
The French side threatened a revival with Jye Mullane and Phillippe Laurent crossing before Munoz slotted a goal to cut the deficit to eight points. But forward Kavanagh made sure of the win with his side's seventh try before Yates completed his treble three minutes from time.
