Rooney's two tries and five conversions handed Barrow the win |
Barrow pulled off a shock win over Super League side Castleford to reach the fifth round of the Challenge Cup. Jamie Rooney went over to give Barrow the lead before going on to convert a Jermaine McGilvary try. Castleford fought back through Jordan Thompson, Mitchell Sargent, Kirk Dixon and Joe Westerman (2). But Rooney ran riot on the Tigers defence, adding three kicks and another try to McGilvary's second but it was Ned Catic who grabbed the winner.
Barrow coach Steve McCormack told BBC Radio Cumbria: "I'm not only proud of the team but of the town, look at the supporters still here. "It's a fantastic achievement to beat a Super League club, as far as coming here to the Jungle, it's a very intimidating place. "Being under the cosh at the back end of the second half, our golden period toward the end of the second half and play under that pressure. "The players deserve the credit and I'm delighted for them. "We felt we could come here and win, we genuinely thought we could win here."
