Hayne has been in top form in the Four Nations |
Jarryd Hayne beat off competition from Australia team-mates Greg Inglis and Billy Slater to win the International Federation Player of the Year award. The 21-year-old winger has established himself as a key figure in Australia's star-studded backline. England and Leeds winger Ryan Hall, 21, claimed the Rookie of the Year prize after four Test caps. Hall, together with England team-mates Kevin Sinfield and Gareth Ellis, was also named in the Team of the Year. Hall was also named international winger of the year and said he was "bewildered" to have been recognised. "I was surprised to be one of the nominees, to be honest. It's a great honour for me," said Hall, who scored 28 tries for Leeds in their championship-winning season. Sinfield was named as the top loose forward for 2009, while Ellis - who has starred in the NRL since joining Wests Tigers - was selected as the best second-rower. Hall beat Australia centre Michael Jennings, who scored a hat-trick on his Kangaroos debut, and England half-back Richie Myler to his award as the best international rookie. And Craig Bellamy received the Coach of the Year award after leading Melbourne Storm to the NRL title although his New South Wales side lost 2-1 to Queensland in the State of Origin series. For Hayne, who played for Fiji in the 2008 World Cup, the prize is the latest honour after a glittering season for Parramatta Eels was marked by the Dally M Player of the Year award. Meanwhile, Sinfield, Ellis, Inglis, Slater, Australia hooker Cameron Smith and New Zealand prop Fuifui Moimoi have been shortlisted for the Golden Boot award, with the winner to be announced after Saturday's Four Nations final between Australia and England.
