Brett Hodgson starred for Huddersfield Giants as they remained within touching distance of the top two in the Super League with victory over Harlequins. Hodgson scored two late tries and kicked 12 points as the visitors came from 6-0 down to wrap up the win. The visitors capitalised on a Quins side lacking a cutting edge and always had enough to keep their rivals at bay. Two quick Chris Melling tries gave Quins hope but Hodgson snuffed that out with his late burst. The game had started with both defences on top before Luke Gale went over to put the hosts ahead after a slick Chad Randall pass. | 606: DEBATE |
But the Giants responded with Michael Lawrence putting Leroy Cudjoe in at the corner. Melling twice missed a booming Liam Fulton kick to allow David Hodgson to bundle over as the visitors took the lead on the stroke of half-time. And the Giants built on their lead against their increasingly ragged opponents as Cudjoe slapped the ball inside for Michael Lawrence to stroll over. Melling gave the Giants some cause for concern with his double in the final 10 minutes but his efforts proved in vain.
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott: "I thought we were absolutely terrible. "As an attacking force we were a bit of a joke and even after putting ourselves in a position to win the game we came up with a load of rubbish. "We have some real problems at the moment, and I do not know what the answer is." Huddersfield Giants coach Nathan Brown: "I honestly thought we were pretty average. "We found a way to win and that shows we are becoming a good team - not a great team, but a good one. "I actually thought we lost the forward battle and at 20-6 they really ripped into us, but we stuck at it and got the win."
