Harlequins (12) 24 Tries: Dorn, Sharp, Howell, Williamson Goals: Purdham 4
Wakefield (11) 17 Tries: Brough, Moore, Martin Goals: Brough 2 Drop-goal: Brough
Harlequins beat Wakefield to record their third straight win and go fourth in the Super League table. Quins led by one point at the end of a close first half with Luke Dorn and Will Sharp scoring for them and Danny Brough and Richard Moore replying. David Howell marked his new contract with a try as he scored from Danny Orr's kick and another try by Luke Williamson put the home side on top. But Tony Martin's late try ensured Wakefield went down fighting.
Harlequins coach Brian McDermott: "We really had to tough that one out today, and it gives me a great satisfaction when we win a game like that. We are not a side that wants to get into an arm-wrestle but we were forced into one, and we really had to grind it out. "In the end I thought we defended them out of the game. I still had a horrible feeling they might nick it at the end, but we really stuck to the task today." Wakefield coach John Kear: "In the first half we had played well, but the second half killed us. The first 15-20 minutes after the break we just couldn't hold onto the ball, and we presented them field position. "They took advantage of that, and it was always going to be difficult. We need to look after the ball - and that is something we need to address quickly."
